London - Sana

Official British data published today revealed that Britain has sold weapons and military equipment to the Saudi regime over the last six months, worth one billion and 400 million pounds.

The BBC reported that the disclosure of these numbers came at a time of growing pressure for the government to review arms sales to the Saudi regime, following US President Joe Biden’s decision to stop Washington’s support for the Saudi-led coalition in Yemen.

Organizations calling for an end to the sale of British arms to Saudi Arabia have described the latest statements as "shocking".

The British Guardian newspaper considered that the United Kingdom should take a similar decision to stop arms sales to the Saudi regime and end all forms of support for it, as it “risks diplomatic isolation as US policy has become more focused on preventing the Saudi-led coalition from violating international law and with the European Union’s countries continuing to implement policies. The most restrictive arms export, the latest in Italy, ”.

The newspaper said that "the United Kingdom could continue on the path of arms supply and be criticized as an exception and risk further criticism of placing the arms industry and relations with the Saudi royal family above human rights and humanitarian law, changing course, restricting or stopping arms transfers."

The Saudi regime’s purchases represented 43 percent of the total British arms sales during the past decade. Previous reports revealed that the British company BAE Systems sold weapons to Saudi Arabia for more than 15 billion pounds during the aggression on Yemen and that these sales took place during the period in which the Saudi regime was launched. Deadly bombing operations on Yemeni cities.

Reports also indicated that thousands of civilians have been killed since the beginning of the Saudi aggression on Yemen in the month of March 2015, where it launched bombing campaigns without discrimination after obtaining weapons from BAE Systems and other Western companies.
