Difficult to find a more explicit and colorful account of the consequences of fear on a population.
Some abandon all moral principles.
Others start peddling invented rumors that make your hair stand on end.
Still others, once reasonable in behavior, indulge in abominable witchcraft.
Denouncement flourishes, madness wins, suicides multiply.
