The Bavarian Red Cross and a partner have big plans for elderly care in Murnau and Seehausen.

Conversions and new buildings are planned.

There is a total investment volume of 60 to 80 million euros.

  • For a long time nothing went forward, but now something is happening in the Murnau BRK retirement home.

  • It is being rebuilt and renovated on a large scale, and new buildings are also to be built.

  • The BRK has teamed up with Terragon AG for the multi-million dollar project.

Murnau / Seehausen

- It was a bang that made people sit up and take notice: in 2019 it became known that the Social Service Society (SSG) of the Bavarian Red Cross was considering turning the Murnau senior citizens' home on the Garhöll into a hotel.

At that time there was talk of a three- to four-star hostel with up to 180 double rooms.

These considerations sparked considerable debates in the municipal council.

Above all, the intended size caused a shake of the head.

Partner gets in

The hotel plans have meanwhile been dashed.

Instead, SSG is forging others together with its partner Terragon AG.

The retirement home is to be converted and renovated in order to offer assisted living there in the future.

Dr.

Michael Held, CEO of Terragon AG, prefers the term service living.

In any case, around 100 two-room apartments are to be built there.

So far there are 154 apartments.

New home with 90 beds planned

Down at the Staffelsee on Seehauser Flur, the existing building is to be demolished and a building for service living is to be built in the same place.

50 units are targeted.

In addition, the social service company wants to build a new home for inpatient care with around 90 beds.

In addition, they want to establish an outpatient nursing service there.

Employee apartments are also planned.

It is still open whether this will become a separate building.

The planned investment volume is enormous: Held speaks of a total of 60 to 80 million euros.

Managing Director: Much more attractive offer

"We are very satisfied with this solution", emphasizes SSG managing director Christian Pietig.

“This offer is much more attractive than what we have now.” Regarding the reasons for the collaboration, he says that both areas are “too big” for the social service company.

"We were looking for a partner who could buy an area."

Terragon buys land

He was found with Terragon AG.

She buys the area on the Garhöll as well as part of the area down on the Staffelsee.

According to its own statements, the corporation has more than 20 years of experience in the development of high-quality, age-appropriate properties.

According to its homepage, the Berlin-based group of companies is the market leader in Germany in the area of service living for senior citizens.

The AG is not yet present south of Munich.

"We are looking for suitable locations between Wilhelmshaven and Garmisch-Partenkirchen," says CEO and Terragon founder Held.

“Murnau is incredibly attractive because of its location.” In addition, there is a need - and it will also grow in the region.

The first step

The first step would be to build a new inpatient care facility down by the lake.

“Preferably next year,” says Held.

If he stands, the Garhöll residents could move downstairs.

Thereafter, according to the plan, the retirement home will be renovated from 2024.

It dates from the 1970s.

Community councils still have to give blessings

The crux of the matter: The committees in Murnau and Seehausen still have to approve the project with the working title “Seniorencampus Staffelsee”.

Pietig will present the project to the building committee of the market town on Tuesday in the non-public part.

Murnau town hall is shrouded in silence

What does the market town think of the plans for the retirement home?

Are there any concerns / obstacles?

If yes, which?

How does Mayor Rolf Beuting (ÖDP / Bürgerforum) see the whole thing?

All of this remains unclear at first.

The town hall does not want to comment before the meeting.

Seehausen welcomes the fact that something is moving forward

In Seehausen there are apparently concerns that holiday homes or condominiums could one day be built at the lake below.

"That is impossible," emphasizes Pietig.

And Held explains: “That is not part of our model.” Mayor Markus Hörmann (CSU) confirms these concerns.

But such use can be contractually excluded.

Hero is ready for it.

“Basically we welcome the fact that something is finally developing,” emphasizes the town hall chief.

But you have to see how the concept finally looks.

Pietig's hope

It remains to be seen how the local councils express themselves.

"We hope that the necessary adaptation of the building law will be implemented benevolently and quickly," explains Pietig.

Service providers on board

The social service company currently has almost 100 employees at the Murnau location.

The number will only change slightly, says Pietig.

The service provider Agaplesion is also on board.

The non-profit corporation is the diaconal partner for the range of services and support.

There is a common operating concept with the SSG.
