Proportional: Hervé Morin says yes but without a referendum

2021-02-09T19:40:37.298Z

The president of the Centrists supports the initiative of François Bayrou but prefers the parliamentary way to achieve it.

Hervé Morin will sign François Bayrou's letter on Wednesday but, before sending it himself to Emmanuel Macron, he will add two nuances: he prefers the parliamentary route rather than the referendum route and he strongly hopes that this reform does not prevent not the country to initiate a major overhaul of the organization of public authorities via a much more assertive decentralization.

The president of the Centrists made his decision after securing an agreement within his own movement.

Eighteen votes were cast for and two against during an internal consultation organized on Sunday, by videoconference.

Bayrou sent his open letter to the head of state and party leaders.

He wants Emmanuel Macron to initiate this reform which was a campaign promise but also the fruit of their political alliance.
