The health authorities in South Korea said today that they have recorded 26 confirmed cases of the mutated strain of the emerging corona virus, which brings the total number of infections to 80.
Yonhap quoted the Korean Agency for Disease Control and Prevention: "24 people were confirmed to have the mutated Corona strain from Britain, while one person was infected with the South African mutated strain and another from Brazil."
The agency warned of more transmissible viruses spreading in the country and said it would expand the scope of analysis of cases of mutated strains and stresses monitoring foreign arrivals to better detect potential cases.
South Korea extended the ban on passenger flights from Britain, which was in effect from December 23 until February 11, to prevent the spread of the mutated strain that was first identified in Britain.
