The US Senate supported a full trial of former President Donald Trump, and the majority of senators approved the constitutionality of his trial and its compatibility with the constitution.
And AFP reported that 56 lawmakers in the Senate voted in favor of recognizing the constitutionality of Trump's trial, compared to opposition from 44 other senators during the voting session that took place this evening.
Six Republican lawmakers have joined the Democratic senators in backing the argument that impeaching Trump is a permissible procedure under the US Constitution despite his leaving office.
Earlier today, President Trump's historic trial session on charges of inciting violence and storming into Congress building began last month, making him the first former president to be tried in the Senate.
Five people, including a police officer, were killed in the attack on the Congress building, which was carried out by Trump supporters.
On January 13, the Democratic-dominated House of Representatives accused the Republican Trump of inciting the revolt, becoming the only US president facing impeachment twice and the first former president to face trial in the Senate.
