A study conducted by the French specialized institution "EP Var" revealed that the risk of acute infection and death from the Coronavirus is associated with about 47 chronic diseases.
In the study published by the Foundation on its official website, the researchers focused on seven of the most dangerous chronic diseases that may double the risk of hospitalization due to acute infection with the Coronavirus before the death obtained from it.
The study conducted a near-comprehensive analysis of the data of more than 66 million people in order to identify chronic diseases and other factors such as age or gender that may pose an increased risk of infection with the emerging coronavirus and death from it.
The study indicated that during the first wave of the epidemic in the period from February 15 to June 15, 2020, more than 87,800 people from the research sample were transferred to hospitals due to a chronic disease associated with Corona, and 15,660 people died in hospitals.
The size of the study, which covered almost the entire population of France, allowed for an accurate estimate of the risks that the virus poses to patients suffering from common or chronic diseases, as it confirmed that the elderly are more vulnerable to infection with the Coronavirus with an increased likelihood of hospitalization or death compared to people between the ages of 40 and 44. Years old.
The study found that hospital admission is when symptoms of the disease intensify, tripling in people between the ages of 70 and 74 years, 6 times in people between the ages of 80 and 84 years and 12 times in the age of 90 years and over.
The correlation was more pronounced with regard to death, as the risk of dying from complications from corona was doubled 12 times in the age group between 60 to 64 years, 30 times between 70 to 74 years old, 100 times between 80 and 84 years, and nearly 300 times for those aged 90 A year and older.
