The outline of returning to school last night (Tuesday) in the Corona Cabinet left many parents, students and educators confused.

Along with joy at the exit from the zoom to the schools, the outline increased the ambiguity, with a host of major issues that were not addressed, fear of infection and complicated logistical preparation.

The first pulse, which will take effect starting tomorrow, includes the return of kindergartens and first-fourth grades to schools in green and yellow localities, as well as orange localities where the rate of vaccinated over 50 is higher than 70% and the traffic light index is lower than 6.5.

Even after that, close to two million students in the orange and red cities and fifth- to twelfth-grade students will continue to study from home, and will return to activity gradually - in two weeks, fifth-sixth and eleventh-twelfth graders will return according to the same outline, and in a month The education system with the return of seventh-tenth grades.

The outline for the return of the education system

  • Gradual return to activity in green, yellow and border orange cities with more than 70% vaccinated over the age of 50

  • Preference for corona examinations of students in borderline orange cities

  • tomorrow:

  • Kindergartens and grades 1-4

  • Educational activities in an open area for up to 10 people in other localities

  • In two weeks:

  • 5th-6th and 11th-12th grades

  • in a month:

  • 7th-10th grades

The ambiguity only intensified.

Education Minister Yoav Galant, who just two days ago said that "he has no urge to open up the education system," is fully aware of the psychological damage of the corona year among children.

"In the last year, we have identified alarming phenomena that are developing in students - obesity, a sharp increase in the volume of alcohol and drug use, a sharp increase in requests for psychological help and reports of distress, anxiety and loneliness. , "He said at the cabinet meeting last night.

The minister claimed that he was "anxious" for the safety of the students, but faced criticism that he did not push for the opening of studies - according to the approved outline, 5th-6th graders along with 11th-12th grade high school students will stay home for at least another two weeks, while Seventh-tenth grade students for another month.

These dates are also only approximate, and depend on the morbidity data, the immunization rate and the coefficient of infection.

Despite the difficulties of middle school students, who have not visited the school for nearly a year, the malls and open-air shopping centers will open before they return to school.

This, while a large part of the stores in the malls are the branches of the big chains - which not only were not harmed but also came out with profits from the Corona period.

How many days will they study in schools and what about classes outside?

A guide to returning to school

1. Returning for a second or third beat?

According to the Ministry of Health's outline, seventh- through tenth-grade students are scheduled to return for the third beat along with the cafes and restaurants, scheduled for March 9th.

But a week and a half later, they went on a Passover holiday, which begins in schools more than a week before the holiday itself.

Meanwhile, no one is talking about completing the school days during the Passover holiday for high school and middle school students, and the plan is to hold the studies in the format of "schools of great freedom" only for kindergarten and elementary students.

Between beats, the Ministry of Health proposed a two-week term, provided that the defined criteria are met, but in practice there is a significant possibility that the two weeks will become a month, and the third beat defined in the outline of quarantine will not occur at all.

Although the outline provides a horizon for students and educators, it is difficult to call it certainty.

2. Blurred borders between colors

The lack of a limit on the transition between colors and students and teachers can quickly lead to an increase in morbidity.

Thus, the assistant or teacher from the Red Authority can reach a green or yellow settlement unhindered and put entire classes in isolation.

Also, in the big cities there are quite a few schools and kindergartens that are visited by students from the nearby neighborhoods, which are a short distance away, sometimes even across the road.

According to the outline, the educational institution located in the yellow or green neighborhood may also accept the students or members of the educational staff who live in the orange or red neighborhoods.

As a result, neighborhood colors may change rapidly rather than in the desired direction.

3. Complicated logistics

The new model has changed the colors of the authorities every week according to the level of morbidity and the rate of vaccinators, which makes building the hours system a complex task in terms of manpower.

Any such change requires a logistical deployment of manpower and study rooms.

The organization in terms of the system of hours, the distribution of rooms, teaching and study supporters, some inside and some outside, creates a lot of uncertainty among the staff.

Check the morbidity trend in your locality:

4. Studies are renewed, the format is old

Return to studies in the lower grades will be possible without division into capsules at all in grades 1-2 and in grades 3-4 in groups of up to 20 students.

This is exactly the same pattern that existed at the time of the previous return to studies of these ages in early November, which also contributed, according to estimates, to the spread of the disease.

5. Without reference to red localities

The approved outline allows for meetings of up to ten students outside in the red areas and in most of the oranges. In the early closures, however, some of the ultra-Orthodox educational institutions concentrated in the red cities continued to conduct studies contrary to the guidelines, and the outline does not address increased enforcement in areas where violations have been recorded in the past.
