The M5S (M5S, anti-system until it came to power) had initially scheduled an online vote, from Wednesday 12:00 GMT to Thursday 12:00 GMT, to allow its activists to decide whether the movement should support the government that the former President of the European Central Bank tries to train.

On Wednesday morning, a post on the party's blog announced that "

the planned vote on the government (...) is temporarily suspended

" but in the evening it indicated that the vote would take place online Thursday, from 09:00 to 17:00 GMT .

The postponement came after Mario Draghi agreed to take into account certain requests from M5S, the party said on its blog, including the creation of a "

super-ministry for ecological transition

".

If the members of the M5S party vote in favor of participating in the pro-Draghi coalition, the latter could benefit from almost unanimous support in Parliament.

Italy, hit by the Covid-19 pandemic which has claimed more than 92,000 lives and plunged the economy into its worst recession since the end of World War II, urgently needs to form a new cabinet.

Mario Draghi has so far registered the support of almost all parties, with the exception of the Brothers of Italy (FDI, far right).

If he obtains the necessary support, he could announce the composition of his cabinet on Friday and ask for a vote of confidence in Parliament on Monday or Tuesday.

For him, time is running out because some important and unpopular measures in the fight against the Covid-19 epidemic, such as the ban on movement between regions or the curfew, expire on Monday and a new decree from government is essential to possibly extend them.

Theoretically, given its impact, this decree cannot be taken by the resigning government of Giuseppe Conte, which only deals with current affairs and no longer has the necessary legitimacy.
