INTERVIEW - Mayor LR of the 6th arrondissement of Paris and former Minister of Justice considers the government's bill on separatism to be insufficient.

LE FIGARO.

- The National Assembly examines the government's bill on separatism.

In your eyes, is it sufficient to fight political Islam?

-

Separatism is deeply rooted in French society.

It is the fruit of decades of renouncements which have established the right to be different as a value superior to republican universalism.

The text debated in the National Assembly brings together technical measures that may be useful but which do not address the root causes of separatism.

This text attempts to curb setbacks and renouncements, but not to regain ground.

However, this is what it is about: to reconquer territories which have separated from the Republic, even in Paris.

What policy do you recommend to "regain ground"?

The offensive must be twofold.

First of all, we have to take responsibility for putting an end to a settlement policy that has fostered separatism and in particular in social housing.
