While there are discussions about possible easing in schools, a cry for help comes from the eastern district.

While there are discussions about possible easing in schools, a cry for help comes from the eastern district.

Olching / Puchheim

- The Graßlfinger elementary school director and spokeswoman for the district teachers' association, Cathrin Theis, and Christian Römmelt, Rector of the Primary School South in Puchheim, express criticism of the quick instructions from the Ministry of Culture in a kind of fire letter to the daily newspaper.

Information for the following week is available on Friday evening

Current example: Last Friday, shortly before 6 p.m., a letter had arrived informing us when we would be informed about the changes from February 15: three days before, on February 12.

This tight deadline is more the rule than the exception.

Another problem: "It is not uncommon for school administrators to receive a press release earlier than the official internal letter by which we have to act."

All of this leads to an organizational dilemma: "How should a class be organized sensibly in a week that would have actually been the carnival vacation?" Secretaries and staff working on a full day would not be paid that week.

Further questions arise: “In the case of face-to-face teaching with information on Friday, February 12th, how should it be ensured that all-day students have their lunch on the table from Monday, February 15th?

How do you get to all the other care facilities at the weekend? ”The Ministry of Culture has not yet answered many such questions, report Rectors Theis and Römmelt.

The school families have reached the limit of their resilience.

Nothing has been running normally since March 2020.

"Many teachers and headmasters at our elementary and middle schools are currently completing hours that go well beyond their actual working hours," it says.

School principals would report weeks with 50 to 60 hours and countless weekends worked.

The shop has to run somehow and it's a pleasure for the children, explain Theis and Römmelt.

But not even during the holidays - when they happen - you can really take a deep breath.

The recovery time has shrunk because emergency care is available and digital skills had to be trained in advanced training through distance teaching.

“Distance learning is very stressful for everyone.

Young students in particular now need a break, ”it says.

Still, there is hope for more computers.

A good two thirds of the teachers should be equipped with laptops or tablets.

Now it has to be shown whether this is a one-off PR campaign or a serious attempt to promote schools to a high level of digitization.
