Snow: 300 kilometers of traffic jams in Île-de-France, an “almost normal” situation

Accumulations of 2 to 7 cm of snow, even up to 10 cm locally, fell on the Paris basin during the night from Tuesday to Wednesday.


The northern half of France is going through an episode of extreme cold and snow in the middle of the week.

This Wednesday morning, the traffic experienced an "almost normal" situation, despite the snowfall in the region, according to the direction of the roads of Ile-de-France (Dirif).

In the Yvelines, nearly 800 heavy goods vehicles are currently stored, including 600 in Saint-Arnoult, to prevent possible traffic difficulties.

The police headquarters called on Ile-de-France residents to “refrain from taking the road this Wednesday morning”.

"The network is trafficable but we ask motorists to pay close attention, especially on slip roads and expressways, because temperatures will drop further," said Dirif director Alain Monteil.

The N118, one of the main black spots in Ile-de-France during bad weather, remains closed this Wednesday morning to all users "the time to clear the road", added the prefecture.

School transport is suspended in the departments of Essonne, Val-d'Oise, Yvelines and Seine-et-Marne.

Next night (Wednesday to Thursday) the cold will tend to increase in the North-East and between the Loire and the Seine.

In the Yvelines, the temperature can drop to -5 ° Wednesday and -10 ° overnight from Wednesday to Thursday, depending on the prefecture.
