President Biden has formally rescinded the emergency declaration made in February 2019 by his predecessor, Donald Trump, on the United States border with Mexico.

The end of the exceptionality adds to the confirmation of the freezing of funds destined to the construction of a border wall.

But the roughly 3,600 soldiers deployed to the area remain there, according to the Pentagon.

"I have determined that the declaration of national emergency on our southern border was unjustified," Biden defends in a letter sent to Nancy Pelosi, leader of the Democratic majority in the House of Representatives, and to Vice President Kamala Harris, in her capacity as president of the Senate.

"I have also announced that it will be the policy of this Administration that no more US taxpayer dollars are diverted to the construction of a border wall," adds the president.

The proclamation completes the executive order signed by Biden on his first day in the White House, questioning the validity of the national emergency declaration and ordering a pause in the construction of the wall.

In his first weeks in the White House, the president has dedicated himself to undoing, by decree, some of the most controversial policies of his predecessor.

The troops deployed on the ground, according to Pentagon sources cited by

, will continue to provide support to the Department of Homeland Security and border agents.

The work of these soldiers, according to the same sources, was not related to the construction of the wall.

The heavy hand with immigration was one of the hallmarks of the Trump Administration, which came to power with the star promise of building a wall on the border with Mexico.

The emergency declaration decreed by Trump, after scuffles with Congress about the financing of the wall, opened the door to divert money to the controversial project budgeted for other agencies.
