After the chaos in the education system in Jerusalem, the municipality announced tonight (Thursday) that classes will open tomorrow in three neighborhoods designated by the Corona Cabinet on Tuesday - Beit Hakerem, Ramat Motza and Beit Safafa.

Kindergarten classes in these neighborhoods will open tomorrow and schools will open Sunday to first through fourth grades.

The municipality announced that they are working to open the schools in other neighborhoods as well.

This morning started with disappointment for many children who went to bed yesterday knowing they were going back to kindergartens and schools, and in the morning they heard about the municipality’s decision published at 8pm to cancel schooling all over the city.

Many parents were angry that their children were disappointed once again.

Dikla Sheinfeld, a mother from Jerusalem, described the difficulty and disappointment of her two sons, in first and third grades, who thought they were returning to school.

"They were already getting into beds, bags ready, lunch boxes on the counter, everything was ready," she said.

Sheinfeld added that she prepared for hours yesterday her son in first grade, who was afraid to return to class.

"He all year did not really make the adjustment because they kept going, going and going. He cried every afternoon that he was scared and did not want to go back. It took me hours to calm him down, prepare him, assure him he would be fine. Until he calmed down and started to feel more comfortable then We are not going. "

"The fracture it causes a child in first grade, until I pick him up he falls, he picks up and he falls. Don't think about it, it's an inexplicable damage," she said, adding that her older son was happy when he heard he was returning to school.

"He was excited, didn't see friends for a long time, and said he was so happy to meet friends and play and was really pissed."

"It's so hard to readjust. It's not normal anymore. He's already started getting dressed and getting organized because we did preparation like for Sunday in first grade, and I come and tell him I'm sorry and there is no school," she said.

"He did not know whether to rejoice or be ashamed. He had already come to terms with the fact that he was leaving, and then he was disappointed. Go and explain to him that the municipality is wrong, that the government is wrong. It is not simple. And the big boy was very sad."

Parents also had to prepare accordingly, and locate someone who would be with the children at home while they were at work.

"To receive at eight-thirty in the evening a message that there are no schools is unbelievable," she added.

According to the government's decision, studies could be opened in kindergartens and grades one through four in yellow and green areas.

It was also determined that studies will be opened in orange areas with a traffic light score of less than 6.5 and a vaccination rate of those aged 50 and over at more than 70%.

In a statement from government ministries yesterday, a list of orange localities that meet the criteria was published, and it did not include neighborhoods in Jerusalem.

The municipality blamed in its announcement last night the "ambiguity between the Corona Cabinet decision last night and the instructions given this morning by the Home Front Command and in the afternoon by the Ministry of Health on the issue of orange neighborhoods," and ignored its responsibility on the issue.

A source in the municipality said that the Ministry of Health announced late yesterday that they were confused and that it was not possible to open the schools in orange neighborhoods at all.

Since according to the updated data there are no yellow and green neighborhoods, the decision was made to cancel the studies completely.

However, a source in the health system rejected the claim and said that it was probably a confusion of the municipality regarding the orange neighborhoods where it can be opened.

One way or another, the city list included areas that were not included in the decision. The municipality issued a notice yesterday around 12:00 announcing the opening of studies in 11 areas, including orange neighborhoods where the morbidity is high. Various reports were circulated throughout the day regarding discrepancies between the various bodies and principals and parents approached the municipality in an attempt to understand what was expected today.

In response to a Walla! NEWS On the subject, the municipality replied at 18:50 that it had acted in accordance with the publication of the Home Front Command and that "the educational institutions in Jerusalem will be opened as the municipality informed the residents." But at 20:20, a spokeswoman for the municipality issued a notice of cancellation of studies throughout the city, until clear instructions were received from the Ministry of Health and the Corona Cabinet regarding the orange neighborhoods. So even in neighborhoods like Beit Hakerem and Ramat Motza, where morbidity is lower, studies were canceled after they turned orange during the week.

The Ministry of Health and Magen Israel rejected the municipality's claims and said in response that "on Tuesday evening, the Corona cabinet accepted the Ministry of Health's proposal. The regulations list the yellow and green localities where education is partially opened. In cities with over 200,000 residents, According to the traffic light, the same goes for the city of Jerusalem. The education opening regulations have been approved by the cabinet and are made public, including a complete and detailed list of the cities and neighborhoods where studies can take place. "The education that can be opened in the city is Beit Hakerem, Ramat Motza and Beit Safafa. The Ministry of Health emphasizes that the published government regulations must be adhered to in full detail."
