Beijing-Sana
The Chinese Administration of Radio and Television announced today that it has banned the broadcasting of BBC World News, for publishing content that violates the principles of credibility and impartiality in the media.
The Xinhua News Agency quoted the administration as saying that it was found that BBC World News seriously violated the regulations for the administration of radio and television and the management of foreign satellite television channels in its reports on China in contravention of the requirements stipulating that news reports must be true, fair, impartial and not undermine China's national interests and ethnic solidarity.
The administration added that since the channel failed to meet the requirements of broadcasting in China as an external channel, it will therefore be prevented from continuing its services within the Chinese territory, and the China National Radio and Television Administration will not accept the channel’s broadcast application for the new year.
China had repeatedly called on Western countries to desist from unjustified smear campaigns against it and not to interfere in its internal affairs.
