Day trippers park their cars at the supermarket: does Bad Heilbrunn need a new hiking parking lot?

Bad Heilbrunn also attracts many day-trippers during the Corona period.

This caused a debate in the local council about the parking situation.

Bad Heilbrunn

- The Loisachtal magically attracts day trippers, especially during the corona pandemic.

On the one hand, this is positive, but on the other hand it also leads to problems.

Bad Heilbrunn-based Rewe store operator Alexander Wutke complains that many hikers park in front of his supermarket and that there is only little space left for customers.

One way out could be a parking lot for hikers on Bierhäuslweg.

Local councilor Konrad Specker (FW) reported that local councilor Konrad Specker (FW) reported at the latest meeting of the committee that residents of Tölzer Strasse had put up signs asking that day trippers should not park their car on their narrow street, but on the Rewe parking lot.

“Garbage trucks and the fire brigade hardly ever get through there.” At the same time, Wutke found “at least 20 third-party parkers” on the Rewe parking lot when counting.

The situation is "unsatisfactory" for both sides, said the local council, which operates a bakery branch in the Rewe store.

He asked for a discussion on how Wutke can be relieved and residents can be protected: "At the same time, we are a tourism region and should welcome day trippers and holiday guests."

Rewe parking lot in Bad Heilbrunn was originally intended for hikers

Mayor Thomas Gündl (CSU) replied: “With this issue we are in good company with other communities.” Indeed, some community areas are “well parked, but I've never had the feeling: For God's sake, I'm not coming anymore out. ”The Rewe parking lot was deliberately built without barriers and larger than usual to allow hikers to park.

"When we planned that, we did not yet know that a pandemic was coming and the number of day trippers in the region was increasing," said Gründl.

There is another parking lot for hikers at the Kursaal, which is currently heavily used by guests of the specialist clinic.

But improvement is in sight, as the specialist clinic is planning an underground car park with 86 parking spaces.

Gründl remarked somewhat sarcastically: "The problem will then be that the very active hikers would prefer to drive up the mountain." In other words: The way from the Kursaal to the starting point of their tour might be too far for them.

Will solidarity and consideration be enough until the end of the pandemic?

“We deliberately allowed double use for the Rewe parking lot,” confirmed Bernd Rosenberger (Greens).

The situation is currently difficult for hikers: “Usually everything is spread out towards South Tyrol.

Now people in the region are going on vacation, which I think is good. ”In six to ten months, when a large part of the population has been vaccinated, the situation will change.

Until then, he recommends solidarity and mutual consideration.

Josef Schröfl (CSU) spoke in a similar way: “A difficult time, as a local resident I am fully affected and have to maneuver from time to time.” At the same time, he fully understands the day trippers.

"I want to go somewhere too, and then I'll be happy when there is parking."

Bad Heilbrunn is not only a tourist destination during pandemic times, countered Specker.

He suggested building a parking lot for hikers at the entrance to Bierhäuslweg.

This topic is on the agenda at the next building committee meeting anyway, replied Gründl.

At the same time, the mayor wants to contact store operator Alexander Wutke to look for a solution to the problem.
