District - The vaccination center is picking up speed: From next Monday, vaccinations could be carried out seven days a week.

The reason: In addition to the vaccine from Biontech, that from Astra Zeneca has now also arrived in the district.

This is to vaccinate citizens under 65 years of age - but there are also priorities here.

Söhl: "Will times have to extend"

For the Johanniter and the BRK district association, who organize the vaccination campaign in the district, things are really getting started.

"The vaccination center will soon be able to run at full capacity," reports BRK district manager Albert Söhl: "We will have to extend the times and then vaccinate from Monday to Sunday." Biontech, which arrive in Freising every week, the first 400 cans were delivered by Astra Zeneca on Tuesday, and more is expected to arrive today: 300 cans.

Söhl: "The vaccine from Moderna was announced to us, but has not yet been released."

Computer selects U 65 vaccinees

Due to a lack of studies with older people, the Astra Zeneca vaccine is to be used in people under 65 years of age, including in the Freising district.

A computer-aided preselection is also made here: Priority 1 is therefore given to people under 65 with serious previous illnesses or relatives from the medical field (doctor's offices, etc.).

We are currently in the process of drawing up the list of U 65 vaccinees, who will then be invited to be vaccinated at relatively short notice.

There is a lot of pressure because the Astra Zeneca fabric also has a limited shelf life.

Söhl emphasizes that the vaccine is better than its reputation: "It is now also vaccinated twice and has an effectiveness of well over 80 percent.

Astra Zeneca is completely unjustly demonized. ”In addition, the vaccine from Astra Zeneca apparently inhibits the transmission of viruses much better than that from Biontech.

Either way: "We are finally moving forward," says Söhl happily.

Lots of late registrations from senior centers

All home residents and employees who wanted to be vaccinated have now received their first and second vaccinations, as Söhl reports.

Due to the large number of late registrations, the campaign in the senior centers is not yet over.

Many homes are now being visited for the third time to vaccinate those who have decided late.

“That's a lot,” reports Söhl.

So initially 200 people were vaccinated in the two Heiliggeist homes.

When they came to the second vaccination, 150 residents and employees said they wanted to be vaccinated now.

“The willingness to vaccinate has improved considerably,” Söhl sums up, and is now “very high”.
