Gilles Le Gendre: "We must organize a debate on proportionality"

2021-02-11T18:58:44.027Z

INTERVIEW - The former leader of the Marcheurs deputies defends the organization of a consultation of elected officials and activists of the majority on this presidential promise.

The deputy La République en Marche de Paris warns against the risk of an "unfinished institutional program" for Emmanuel Macron.

LE FIGARO.

- You recalled the presidential commitment to proportionality in December, and in recent days you have given your support to François Bayrou ... Is this the right time to relaunch this debate?

Gilles LE GENDRE.

-

This debate has animated our majority for a long time.

I have always defended this proposal, even if it were to be the only institutional reform that we would include in our balance sheet, for lack of having been able to succeed in a larger project - which is not our fault.

I do not have the impression - contrary to what I have read - that François Bayrou is launching a challenge to the president.

It is much simpler than that: the executive is not at the origin of this initiative, it is therefore normal that it is carried by the movements of the majority, even more if we are able to mobilize other political forces.
