Prominent sporty visitors are expected in Hohenfurch in the coming days: The handball team of the Tatabanya KC will spend the night in the Schönachgemeinde.

What's behind it.

Hohenfurch

- The landlord Karol (Karlo) Hajnal had a slight smile on the television broadcast of the handball world championship when the national team from Hungary prevailed against Germany.

“I am German, and have been for over 50 years, but my heart also beats for Hungary,” admits the 75-year-old innkeeper from Hohenfurch.

Understandable: Seven players from KC Tatabanya are in the national team - and that is also the hometown of his wife Julianna, with whom Hajnal leads the Piroska / Negele.

Handball has long been one of his favorite sports and he is always in contact with players and officials from the city of 70,000 inhabitants, which is around 52 kilometers west of Budapest.

And now he is even expecting a prominent sporting visit to his inn in Hohenfurch: The first division handball team from Tatabanya KC from Hungary will be visiting the Piroska / Negele inn from February 15 to 17.

Among the 22 people are seven national players who recently prevailed against the German squad in an exciting match at the World Cup in Egypt with 29:28 and finally convinced with fifth place.

The current national team of KC Tatabanya are Adam Borbely, Gabor Ancsin, Matyas Györi, Szolt Balogh, Peter Hornyak, Stefan Sunajko and Adrian Sipos.

They make a stopover with their team in the Schönach community before the route leads to the Rhein-Neckar Löwen and two days later to Schaffhausen in Switzerland.

There KC Tatabanya will play other games for the EHF European League.

In the meantime, the team will spend the night in Hohenfurch and may have a look around the area.

“I would have liked to help organize a game against Tatabanya here in Schongau, perhaps in consultation with the local handball clubs.

Unfortunately, this is not possible because of Corona, ”says innkeeper Karol Hajnal.

“And our handball players don't like to compete without a spectator anyway.

Maybe it will work out next year ”, he wants to stay in touch with Tatabanya or his boss Lagos Mocsai and assistant coach Jakab Sibalin.

Hohenfurch innkeeper in contact with many handball players

In earlier times, Hajnal was dedicated to football, and the native Yugoslavia also played up to the second division in Germany.

But two serious injuries forced the trained chef to rethink.

Initially in upscale restaurants at the stove, he later went into business for himself.

Sometimes he ran handball club restaurants.

Finally he came to Lippe, where he ran a large excursion restaurant and maintained close contacts with the then Hungarian handball trainer of TBV Lemgo, Lagos Mocsai and players.

And because he got to know and love his wife Julianna, who also trained as a cook, during this time, he always had contact with her hometown and association Tatabanya KC.

Hajnal stayed in Lippe for eleven years, where he was also an advisor to the Hungarian trainer there and to the player Laszlo Marosi, who is now the sports director of KC Tatabanya.

This is how the close contacts arose, which are now being continued with the visit to Hohenfurch.

Karol Hajnal took over the Gasthof Negele in March 2017 through acquaintances and brought the restaurant back into shape.

In view of their official appearance, handball players can also enjoy hospitality in the Piroska / Negele inn during corona lockdown times.

Of course, strict all regulations.
