Our selection of Parisian restaurants to celebrate the Chinese New Year at home

2021-02-11T11:16:21.417Z

This February 12, Asia will say goodbye to the year of the Rat, hoping that that of the Ox will be a little more prosperous. Lack of parades in the streets

Chef Samuel Lee is at the head of the kitchens of the Parisian restaurant Shang Palace, the only starred Chinese restaurant in France.

If, this year, the establishment is closed due to the crisis, this great specialist in Chinese cuisine will nonetheless celebrate the New Year with joy and greed: “In China, the celebrations last up to two weeks!

Whether with family or friends, it's a real culinary marathon.

They are often large tables.

But it is above all the large number of dishes offered that characterize a festive meal.

There may be more than twenty.

We also gladly take the opportunity to cook with the family.

We start, for example, all together preparing ravioli ... Steamed, fried or in soup, there is always some.

I love that !

Each dish has a strong symbolism.

Ravioli embodies wealth, fish abundance, the sticky rice cake called

niangao

prosperity to come.

"

Same enthusiasm at Céline Chung.

She is the founder of two popular Chinese trendy restaurants, Petit Bao in the 2nd arrondissement and Gros Bao in the 10th arrondissement.

Like many Asian restaurateurs, she has quite easily managed to offer a nice menu for take-out and delivery: “Popular Chinese culinary culture is very much centered on market cuisine.

It is eaten in the street and is easily transported.

Many specialties such as ravioli or all sautéed dishes therefore hold well over time and are easily reheated.

In addition, in China, it is quite common to go get your meal in the local boui-boui or have it delivered.

For Chinese restaurateurs, having this habit has already been an asset.

If we add the comforting side of this cuisine for our customers, everything was already in place to adapt to current constraints.

"What, in any case, allow us, despite everything, to feast on the occasion of this New Year not quite like the others ...

In addition to its large ravioli in the shape of filled brioche (baozi) and its good marinated or simmered dishes which are always on the menu, Gros Bao offers from February 12 to 14 a New Year's menu "special dim sum" composed, for 16 euros, a "dim sum box" available in a classic or vegetarian version.

It includes a crispy egg roll, two "luobo gao" which are radish cakes typical of the New Year in southern China and 8 fried dumplings.

But the famous house roasted duck will also be part of the party with a "duck and bao box" (18 euros) which contains a quarter of a roasted duck to garnish four brioches accompanied by a formidable house sauce.

We will end with a “buffalo bao”, a special dessert made of a brioche topped with red beans in the shape of a buffalo, an animal symbol of perseverance!

They are garnished with a soft farm pork or cabbage stuffing.

The second is a sort of Taiwanese-style meal tray comprising, in addition to sautéed vegetables and rice, either braised pork belly, marinated soft-boiled egg and pak choï cabbage, or grilled marinated chicken, honey / sesame sauce and tamagoyaki. (Editor's note Chinese version of BBQ sauce)

In the heart of Chinatown in the 13th arrondissement, a priori, nothing distinguishes this Cantonese cuisine restaurant except the line of regulars that can be seen in front.

They all come there for specialties that they do not deviate from such as this homemade shrimp ravioli soup (10.50 euros) or its excellent rotisserie department watched over by the boss's father.

The lacquered duck with the crispy skin reveals a perfectly soft flesh.

It is much better than in many neighboring addresses.

And since you can buy it, on the spot, in half (14.50 euros) or whole (24.50 euros), it's a great idea for a Chinese New Year meal with the family.

An address that is both popular and honorable.

Not recommended for fans of ultra-traditional Chinese cuisine, because Adrien Zheng has decided to have fun combining the culinary culture of the Middle Empire and Western influences.

For the New Year, in addition to an assortment of jiaozi ravioli (small stuffed wheat flour turnovers, 11 euros), he therefore launches the “Mao Dog” a kind of hot dog that he makes by rolling up a very traditional chive pancake. around a sausage!
