Plans for Rottenbuch's water supply are becoming concrete

The water supply in Rottenbuch is as it was in the 1960s.

Therefore, the community wants to build a new elevated tank and a main line.

A million dollar project.

Rottenbuch

- You drink it, cook and shower with it, flush it down the toilet and wipe the floor with it.

Some people also use it to water the plants in the garden.

We are talking about tap water.

That this is always available is completely normal in the district.

But this also requires the corresponding reserves and lines.

And they are getting on in years in Rottenbuch.

Therefore, major investments are due: On the one hand, a new elevated tank, consisting of two stainless steel tanks with a capacity of 300 cubic meters each, is being built.

On the other hand, the community then also needs a new main line.

"It will be very expensive, it is a million dollar project," says Mayor Markus Bader.

In 2018, the municipal council decided to build a new building.

Now the plans are becoming more and more specific.

Two concrete tanks are currently available for the location.

They are from the 1960s.

"They are now much too small," says Bader.

“We don't have a buffer if something happens.” A burst pipe, for example, or when a lot of extinguishing water is needed.

In addition, the location in Solder on Haldenbergerstrasse is not ideal.

"It is not high enough, we have many districts where the pressure is too low," describes the town hall chief.

This is currently being compensated for with pressure boosting systems.

New building planned in Schönegg

The new building is therefore planned at a different location: in Schönegg, at around 870 meters above sea level.

An emergency bandage with Wildsteig is also conceivable from there if the water should run out.

"In extremely dry situations or with a germ problem, for example," says Bader.

A main line around nine kilometers long has to be built from the source at Voglherd to the future elevated tank.

The routing has been in place since last year.

Then Bader put the brakes on a little, hoping to get better prices a few months later.

This year the easements have to be secured in those places where the lines should run on private property.

The tender is planned for the end of the year.

"Winter is always a good time for it," says Bader.

Companies are so good at planning.

That should also have a positive effect on the offers.

Construction is scheduled to begin in 2022.

Information brochure for the Rottenbucher

It is important for the town hall chief to pay attention to the costs.

Because ultimately they are borne by the Rottenbuchers, because the community has to cover the costs of the water supply.

The Schönbergers are not affected by the project, they are supplied from their own source and container.

The municipality has created an information brochure for citizens, which can be accessed online or in the town hall.

It shows examples of how the costs incurred can ultimately be allocated.

Contributions that the landowners pay all at once or in installments or a fee increase are possible.

A combination of both is also conceivable.

The contributions are in turn dependent on the plot and floor area.

In the example calculations, any numbers were chosen that have nothing to do with the actual contributions.

According to Bader, it is currently not possible more specifically.

"That will only work if the cost estimate for the tender has concrete and reliable figures."

The brochure can be found on the Rottenbuch municipality's website under “Municipality”.
