Agustina Albertario

, a member of the Argentine women's field hockey team, has suffered personal sexual harassment since the beginning of last year and through social networks from

Juan Mariano García Sarmiento

, a man based in Mar del Plata.

The situation, which the player denounced twelve months ago, has become complicated in recent days, since the Lionesses team arrived in that coastal city to hold a concentration for the Tokyo Olympics.

As reported by the newspaper

Página 12

, the man violated a restraining order of virtual or face-to-face approach that the Mar del Plata justice had issued against him in January 2020 and sent him videos in which he is seen half naked and threatening Albertario for that first complaint.

The harassment began last year, when the player was also staying with her teammates and the team of the selected team in a hotel in Mar del Plata, within the framework of a concentration similar to the one they carry out these days.

On that occasion, García Sarmiento left him a note at the reception that said:

"Hello puppy. Big kiss. Take care! Love U"

.

The complaint details that he had also made posts on Facebook in which he referred to the phrase

"potus and I"

, implying that he was referring to "his sexual organ", of which "he had sent photographs."

At that moment, the prosecutor

Fernando Daniel Castro

, head of the Functional Unit of Instruction 1 of Mar del Plata

, was intervened

and a measure was requested to prevent the approach and all kinds of electronic contact.

The accused repeated the harassment in recent days, but in a more violent and systematic way.

He sent his victim several videos in which he is seen lying down, bare-chested, speaking and alluding to a personal relationship with the player that does not exist.

According to the prosecutor, this may be the result of "a delusional situation or an obsession."

He also reproaches Albertario for the complaint that was filed in 2020 and threatens her, telling him not to do it again so as not to "make things worse."

The lawyer

Carlos Gustavo Frasquet

, representative of the player, requested the arrest of García Sarmiento, for the violation of two articles of the Penal Code: 149 bis, which penalizes the use of threats with the purpose of forcing another to do, not to do or tolerate something against his will, and 239, which punishes with imprisonment from fifteen days to one year whoever disobeys the decision of a public official, in this case the restraining order, which the accused admitted to being aware of.

The defendant's actions generated much concern on the Las Leonas team and fear for the physical and sexual integrity of the players and the coaching staff.

The selected will continue installed and training in Mar del Plata until the beginning of next week and plans to return to Buenos Aires on Tuesday 16.

In the last ten years in Argentina there is an average of one femicide every 30 hours.

According to statistics from the Office of Domestic Violence of the Supreme Court, in 2018 alone there were 278. Most murders occur in the homes of victims and are committed by partners or exes.
