Damascus-Sana
Khashaba Al-Qabbani in Damascus hosts a theatrical performance of one of the most problematic texts by the late writer Mamdouh Adwan, which was titled "Night of the Slaves".
The play, written by Adwan in the seventies of the last century, was chosen by students of the second batch of the College of Performing Arts at Al-Manara Private University as a project for their graduation in cooperation with the Directorate of Theaters and Music in the Ministry of Culture.
In the text, Adwan presents his own vision of the stage of transition that the Arab community went through from Jahiliyya to the emergence of Islam, choosing historical figures to be among its heroes Bilal bin Rabah, Wahshi and the poet Al-Hatta.
The students of the faculty shone in performing the theatrical work directed by Fouad Hassan with a new vision that blended between the philosophy of slavery throughout history and the tendency of man to freedom through the theatrical performance of graduate students and their movements on stage, volunteering some dances at the beginning and end of the performance to serve the work as a whole.
Imad Jalloul, Director of Theaters and Music, spoke about the support provided by the Ministry of Culture to all those interested in theater and standing by the educational institutes and colleges, whether official ones, especially the Higher Institute for Dramatic Arts or colleges affiliated with private universities.
Dr. Samer Omran, Dean of the College of Performing Arts explained that the presentation was presented by the college’s students for the first time as a first graduation project on the stage of Manara University, pointing out that this college includes an acting department from which a professional actor graduates and is able to work in theater, television drama, cinema, and so on, where students receive the same The curriculum that students of the Higher Institute of Dramatic Arts receive and taught by academic staff.
