This Thursday, February 11, another step was taken towards the reopening of cinemas in Capital Federal and Greater Buenos Aires, which could take place before the end of the month after spending almost a year without performances.

Like last week, the City's Health Minister, Fernán Quirós, and the Minister of Culture, Enrique Avogadro, met with directors of different chains of movie complexes.

The officials promised that next week the City's Chief of Staff approve the reopening and request an exception to the current decree prohibiting the activity from the Chief of Staff of the Nation.

Then, only the approval of the national authorities would remain.

The exhibitors also maintained contact with Augusto Costa, Minister of Production, Science and Technological Innovation of the province of Buenos Aires, so that the reopening of the rooms is simultaneous in Capital and Greater Buenos Aires.

"The opening is imminent", evaluated Martín Álvarez Morales, president of the Argentine Chamber of Multiscreen Exhibitors (CAEM) and general manager of the Cinemark-Hoyts chain, in dialogue with

.

"The approval in CABA would be next week and then we depend on what is resolved by the National Cabinet Office."

Álvarez Morales participated in the tour that Quirós and Avogadro made through the rooms of the Belgrano Showcase together with authorities from that complex and also from Cinépolis, Multiplex, Atlas and María Devoto, a lawyer from the Argentine Federation of Cinematographic Exhibitors (Fadec).

The Showcase and Imax cinema complexes were adapted to once again receive viewers with their own protocol.

"Virtually the entire display arch of the Federal Capital was present," said Álvarez Morales.

“The meeting was a continuation of last week's.

This time we show them how the protocol established for the reopening will be fulfilled.

How do the automatic ticket vending machines operate, how are the rooms, how much distance is there going to be and how will the air renewal be?

The exhibitors also maintained contact with Augusto Costa, Minister of Production, Science and Technological Innovation of the province of Buenos Aires, so that the reopening of the rooms is simultaneous in Capital and Greater Buenos Aires.

In times before the pandemic, more than half of the country's spectators were concentrated there.

How is the protocol

On January 12, the health protocol that cinemas must comply with in order to operate again was approved.

As in the theaters, the development of the activity will have a limited capacity.

Attendance may not exceed 50 percent of the capacity of each room, "or what each competent jurisdictional authority determines."

The use of a chinstrap will be compulsory, and spectators may take it off only to eat or drink, to put it back on later.

The rooms must be sanitized and sanitized before and after each performance.

A key point of the protocol is the concept of “social bubbles of recreation”, which focuses on the spectators who will attend a cinema as a group.

These groups "may not exceed six people and will be made up of adjoining seats."

The distance between seats occupied by people from different groups should be at least 1.5 meters to 2 meters.

Avogadro, Quirós and directors of different cinema chains, on the tour.

Each complex or movie theater will have to develop a schedule of functions that "minimizes the congestion of the public attending entry and exit."

In the same way, it should allow enough time "for the staff to carry out the adequate cleaning and disinfection between functions."

The protocol also advises opening the entrance doors and emergency exits for ten minutes - between functions - to ventilate the rooms.

If natural ventilation cannot be carried out, "renovations must be carried out by means of forced air injection and extraction and / or complement renovations with air recirculation by means of a filtering system".
