There has been a lot of praise in the technical committee of the Ebersberg city council for the design concept of the Ebersberg indoor swimming pool to be renovated.

The Munich architect Wolfgang Gollwitzer presented his renovation concept.

Ebersberg

- The aim is to take up the Olympic colors from 1972, which were incorporated into the design of the Ebersberg swimming pool in the 1970s.

“And that's exactly what we want again,” explained Gollwitzer.

The entrance area is to be designed in a strong red, the changing rooms orange, the changing cupboards blue and yellow, the shower areas green and blue - different in color according to the sexes - and the swimming pool hall will be white and blue.

In the complementary color orange, the two existing works of art on the two walls of the hall will continue to glow, because they are to be restored as a reference to the history and the creation of the bathroom.

Bringing Olympic logos back to life

It was decided to put the color accents only on the walls, not on the ceilings.

They should stay white.

However, acoustic ceilings will be drawn in so that squares will form over the heads of the visitors in the future.

Light ceilings, dark floors, that make the rooms appear larger, the architect explained.

The former Olympic logos integrated into the walls will also be revived.

In the swimming area, plans are also being made to enlarge the windows, which can be easily implemented with the help of a sloping ceiling.

The outside facade of the indoor swimming pool should stand out from the adjoining school, which has already been renovated.

A dark ceramic facade is planned, which is ventilated.

The course pool will be redesigned so that it will have barrier-free access in the future.

Stainless steel is more expensive than tiles

There was only a need to talk about the pool material.

The options were either to renovate the existing ceramic tiles or to use a stainless steel basin.

The main difference lies in the costs, because the purchase of a stainless steel pool costs 250,000 euros more than the renovation of the tiles.

However, it was assured that it would pay off over the years.

Since a stainless steel pool has lower maintenance costs and a higher life expectancy, the installation of such a pool - calculated over 40 years - would cost the city even cheaper.

When asked, it was also assured that both variants were identical in terms of energy.

After a long discussion, the committee decided on the more expensive variant, i.e. the stainless steel basin.

Since decisions up to a financial magnitude of 300,000 euros do not require the approval of the city council, the decision of the technical committee is a done deal: Ebersberg is getting an indoor swimming pool color-coordinated with the 1972 Olympic Games, the swimming pool is being newly installed, made of stainless steel.

The implementation concept presented by the Munich architect has thus been accepted.
