NEW - The world number one will market the second generation of its hydrogen sedan. From 67,900 euros.

The new generation of the Mirai, Toyota's hydrogen fuel cell sedan, has nothing to do with its predecessor.

While the lines of the first Mirai were clearly inspired by the Prius, the new model appears much more statutory, to the point that it would not have been moved from the Lexus badger.

Not content with gaining in elegance, the Mirai 2 is also bulkier.

The length increased by 80 mm to 4.97 meters.

By relying on the TGNA platform, Japanese engineers were able to improve the performance of Toyota's fuel cell technology.

The architecture has been completely revised to allow the installation of a third hydrogen tank, saving 1 kg of storage (5.6 kg), and the adoption of a three-seater bench, instead of two places individual.

The central square nevertheless remains hardly welcoming due to a servitude tunnel.

By installing the 182 hp electric motor at the rear, the Mirai is now rear-wheel drive.

Thanks to a more efficient fuel cell, the Mirai now claims a range of 650 km.

The interior, both in terms of materials and the design of the intricate dashboard, does not meet the standard of a car billed for nearly 70,000 euros.

A rate down by around 15% compared to the older generation.

But the main obstacles to the purchase of the Mirai lie in its limited services by the volume of boot really riquiqui for a car of this size and by the absence of a public hydrogen distribution network.

As it stands, the Mirai can only supply a captive fleet, mainly taxis from the Hype company.
