The tree felling action in the Barbarahof in Peißenberg at the end of last week quickly made the rounds on social media and also caused plenty of criticism.
The responsible Wohnbau GmbH defends the felling as necessary.
Peißenberg - The deforestation of the old trees is an anticipation of the densification of the former miners' settlement in the Wörth district, which begins in August.
By autumn 2022, Wohnbau GmbH Weilheim would like to build 30 additional, barrier-free and socially supported units in addition to the 67 existing apartments.
According to the managing director of the GmbH, Markus Kleinen, the felling work has already been commissioned in order not to come into the closed season that will apply from March according to the Tree and Bird Protection Ordinance.
Only the trees that stood in the way of the new building complexes were removed - nothing more.
According to Kleinen, exactly the planning that was communicated at an information event last autumn is being implemented.
The tenants were also informed separately and in writing about the felling action again in mid-January: "So the whole thing shouldn't have come as a surprise," explains Kleinen in an interview with the local newspaper.
In the housing center only one complaint call was received.
A tree that a tenant planted herself was accidentally cut down - although the resident would have wanted to dig it up beforehand.
"Unfortunately there was miscommunication," admits Kleinen.

As part of the project, which has been calculated at around nine million euros, almost 2050 square meters of new living space will be created in the Barbarahof.
The concept, in the creation of which a landscape architect was also involved, is geared towards sustainability.
"Many new trees and bushes are also being replanted," emphasizes Kleinen.
According to the housing construction website, at least 30 new trunks should be planted to replace the tree felling.
