The planned relocation of the war memorial is already causing emotional debates in Kranzbeg.

The pastor has already clearly positioned himself.

Kranzberg

- When the corona lockdown ends, the Kranzberg community wants to start an extraordinary experiment: a wooden structure is to simulate the war memorial on the forecourt of the church - and with the new findings, the relocation of the memorial from the butcher's parking lot will be discussed.

The emotional debate has long since begun.

The majority can imagine relocation

At the latest meeting of the municipal council, an initial plan for the renovation of the church forecourt was presented.

And of course the war memorial also played a role.

Afterwards, the warriors and soldiers association dealt with the topic.

There were also different opinions.

But the majority can apparently envision a move.

The club then came up with the idea of making wooden structures that symbolize the war memorial.

So you can get the impression on site how this memorial on the church meadow would look.

Mayor Hermann Hammerl (FWG) made it clear that the proposal came from the association and not from him.

After the lockdown, this could be tackled when a corresponding number of people are allowed to meet again.

After the visualization, the local council, the warrior and soldier association and the parish should think about it.

Pastor Erber against it

The Kranzberg pastor Anton Erber has already clearly positioned himself in advance: He refuses to put the war memorial in front of the church and would also not agree to a transfer on parish land to the edge of the meadow.

The pastor does not want to see the memorial in the field of vision of the church.

Community archivist Alfons Berger also sees the war memorial better positioned in a different location.

His recommendation is to keep the current location.

He named the location of the current warrior cross or the area around the town hall as alternatives for a transfer.

"That would destroy the whole ensemble"

The first members have also positioned themselves in the municipal council.

Silvia Tüllmann, for example, vehemently rejects a war memorial: “That would destroy the entire ensemble.” Martin Oberprieler (KGL) thinks similarly, “because you don't always have to put everything in front of the church”.

Monika Mühl (FWG) also came to such an opinion, even if she put forward other arguments.

She pointed out that the local council actually wanted to upgrade the central area with the butcher's inn and the local shops and had been discussing this for a long time: "With the war memorial, space would lose a lot."

On the other hand, people in Kranzberg have been thinking about the war memorial and its relocation since 1992.

Konrad Neumair (KGL) would not see the move negatively, because the inn in the center of the village could then convert the entrance to the parking lot.

At the moment there are some drivers who come from the mountain and use the parking lot as a mini-shortcut to the county road.

That in turn is a threat to people who visit the inn or the butcher's shop.

Question of grants

The Kranzberg council recently expressed the hope that the center of the town could be rebuilt around the intersection if the war memorial would really find a new place after the debate that had lasted for almost 30 years.

Meanwhile, Mayor Hermann Hammerl continues to take care of the requirements for the renovation of the church forecourt.

This week there is another video conference with the urban development funding.

This is about the grants that the Kranzberg community could get.
