The border officer who tried to rape a female soldier was sentenced to less than two years in prison
Barak Avraham was convicted of attempting to rape a female soldier in March 2017, and the judges acquitted him of the offense of dismissal in the investigation, despite messages he wrote to the female soldier after the incident.
The prosecutor asked for a sentence of four and a half years in prison, but the judges chose to reduce the sentence because "the level of violence was not the highest."

The Tel Aviv District Court this week sentenced Barak Avraham, a border officer convicted of attempting to rape a female soldier, to 23 months in prison. In addition, he was given a suspended sentence and will compensate the female soldier with NIS 30,000.
The incident took place in March 2017. Who served together, traveled with another border officer to the wedding of a police officer from the base where they served.
They then drove to Avraham's house in Ramat Hasharon and sat in the yard, until at some point he entered the nearby housing unit and invited her inside.
When the soldier entered, Avraham tried to kiss her, but she shyed away from him, noting that it was "inappropriate" because he had a partner at the time.
Despite the soldier's opposition, Avraham hugged her neck and tried to kiss again.
She told him "no," but could not escape him.

He then took off his pants and panties, as well as her panties, and tried to rape her on a couch that was in the room.
Throughout the incident she kept telling him that she was not interested in him, until suddenly he stopped.
Justices Tali Haimovich, Gilad Neutel and Gershon Gontbanik convicted Avraham of attempted rape, but acquitted him of the offense of dismissal in the investigation.
He was charged with this offense due to text messages he wrote to a female soldier after the incident, such as "You're filtering me, I feel like I'm bothering you and I'm afraid you'll complain about me to your battalion commander or lieutenant colonel, so I did not mean that I really miss if I get involved.

The plaintiff in the case, Adv. Hela Edelman of DIP, sought to sentence Avraham to four and a half years in prison, while the defense sought to be satisfied with a few months.
The judges ruled for a little less than two years.
Judge Haimovich, who wrote the main part of the verdict, noted that Avraham took advantage of the friendship and trust the soldier placed in him, and carried out his actions using force and despite repeated requests that he stop.
On the other hand, Judge Haimovich wrote that "the level of violence in the circumstances was not the highest, and the physical injuries inflicted on the complainant are not serious. It was an incident that lasted only a few minutes, and ended when the defendant stopped his actions." ".
In the end, the court decided to sentence Avraham to almost two years in prison, 16 months probation and compensation for the female soldier.
