Bella Ramsey to participate in the series 'The Last of Us'

British actress Bella Ramsey, best known for her role on "Game of Thrones" as the fearless and fiery Lyanna Mormont, will star in HBO's new adventure, "The Last of Us."

He will join Pedro Pascal, star of the "Star Wars" spin-off "The Mandalorian", in the adaptation of the successful video game.

Craig Mazin, the creator of the award-winning HBO limited series "Chernobyl," is adapting the game with the help of Neil Druckmann, writer and executive producer for Naughty Dog, who developed the game.

Druckmann said on Twitter that he was "absolutely thrilled" to have Ramsey join the cast, adding that he was also "thrilled to have Pedro on board our show."

The show is set to follow the plot of the original game.

The story takes place 20 years after the demise of modern civilization by a deadly pandemic.

Pascal will play Joel, a smuggler who is paid to get 14-year-old Ellie, played by Ramsey, out of an oppressive quarantine zone.

"What starts out as a small job soon turns into a brutal and heartbreaking journey, as both must traverse the United States and depend on each other to survive," reads the WarnerMedia press release.

CNN and HBO share the same parent company, WarnerMedia.

Pascal also participated in "Game of Thrones", playing Oberyn Martell, a member of the House of Martell, the ruling family of the fictional kingdom of Dorne.

Although both actors earned their ticket to stardom on the show, their characters did not intersect.

Both Ramsey and Pascal shared the news of the announcement on their social media accounts Thursday.

Kantemir Balagov, the Russian director best known for his 2019 historical drama "Beanpole," is set to direct the series.

It is not yet clear how many episodes there will be and when they will air.
