The Director of the National Center for Medical Research for Treatment and Preventive Medicine at the Russian Ministry of Health, Oksana Drapkina, announced today that Russia is on the verge of controlling and eliminating the Corona virus, thanks to the massive vaccination campaigns carried out by the Russian authorities in many regions of the country.

"To be able to say that the Coronavirus pandemic is under control or predicting that, we need to develop what is called herd immunity, and that is when about 60 percent of the adult population is vaccinated," Tass quoted Drabkina as saying, adding that "vaccination campaigns have started in the country and are continuing on a large scale So we can say that we are probably on the verge of controlling this infection. ”

According to the deputy director of the Gamalia Center for Epidemiology and Microbiology Research, Denis Logonov, mass vaccination campaigns were launched in many Russian regions on the 18th of last January, and about 2.2 million people received the first dose of the Russian vaccine (Sputnik V).

For his part, the director of the center, Alexander Gintsburg, revealed today that people who received the Russian vaccine (Sputnik V) have enough antibodies that allow them to donate (plasma) to treat people infected with the virus.

The Lancet medical journal published an article reviewing the results of the third phase of clinical trials for (Sputnik) in early February, in which it indicated the positive performance of the vaccine, making it among the safest and most effective methods in the world with a dose effectiveness of 91.6%.

It is noteworthy that the Russian (Sputnik V) vaccine was developed by the Gamalia Research Institute of Epidemiology and Microbiology and was registered in Russia on the 11th of August of last year, becoming the first vaccine registered against the Corona virus in more than 20 countries.
