In lockdown times like these, it's good to look ahead to hopefully better days.

For example on the “Theater im Kurgarten” project in Tegernsee.

Tegernsee

- In the currently orphaned Tegernsee spa garden, you still need a lot of imagination to imagine the following scenario in the cold and sodden lawns: In front of the pavilion there is an eight by four meter open-air stage.

Headlights illuminate “De G'schicht vom Brandner Kaspar”.

That original Tegernsee valley story from the Alpbachtal, in which the protagonist stole the Boandlkramer in the card game Lifetime and Andreas Kern from the Tegernsee Volkstheater gave a new, dynamic and cheeky twist in 2010 and then again in 2018.

As on the open-air forest stage in Bad Wiessee, on two Fridays and Saturdays in August (20th / 21st) and September (3rd / 4th) a lot of cheerful, happy spectators fill the benches and rows of chairs.

You laugh carefree or smile thoughtfully at the resilience of Kaspar from Brandner.

Not only glasses filled with Kerschgeist sound.

From some of the forest festival huts operated by local restaurateurs, tempting smells of delicacies draw into the noses of the guests.

Paths and meadows give off the heat of the day, while a mild breeze from the lake refreshes theater fans.

Brandner Kaspar comes on stage

The “Theater in the Kurgarten”, which Kern and the city of Tegernsee with Mayor Johannes Hagn and Tourist Information Manager Thomas Six have now presented, should be something like this.

In bad weather, you can go to the Ludwig-Thoma-Saal

“It's a nice idea.

The city of Tegernsee is happy to support that, ”said Hagn appreciatively in the direction of Kern.

He has long dreamed of an open-air stage in Tegernsee and has now proposed the spa park, because if the weather is bad, shows can be moved from there to the Ludwig-Thoma-Saal within a very short time.

Six explains: "We have around 130 seats on the park benches and can fill up to over 200 with additional benches or chairs." There will be two categories in the numbered spaces.

Category one in the front area automatically has secure seats in the Ludwig-Thoma-Saal in bad weather.

Category two is intended for fans of outdoor events.

You will be reimbursed the money for your ticket if the weather changes.

“So we can offer a larger cultural event in Tegernsee to coincide with the cultural year 2021,” says Six happily.

“Theater in the spa garden” should become a long-running favorite

Even with the corona restrictions still in place, the concept could be implemented, he says.

Either way, it's important to get the culture going again, people urgently need it.

Six and Kern also agree that the theater project should be continued when the planned expansion of the underground car park in the spa garden is complete.

Until then, those involved in the project want to gain experience and check what is technically necessary for a permanent open-air venue.

Advance sales start in May

But that is still a long way off.

This year the aim is to create a perspective and to get the culture going again: Advance ticket sales for Brandner Kaspar in the “Theater im Kurgarten” will start on May 7th via the Tegernsee Volkstheater, the tourist information and all Munich ticket advance sales points.
