Suspected murder in Binyamin: woman shot dead, her husband the policeman arrested (Photo: Roni Knafo)

In recent weeks, the party leaders have been sitting in the TV studios and constantly blabbering on about how much they, and there is no one else but them, will be able to solve the problems of the State of Israel.

One week ago, Diana Raz was murdered by her husband, while her children witnessed what was happening.

Diana is the 19th murdered woman in the past year.

Referrals to authorities regarding domestic violence have increased by 315% since the Corona crisis began.

A study by the Knesset Research and Information Center indicates that the number of referrals to the Ministry of Welfare's emergency center regarding spousal violence increased by 315% in the period between March and September 2020 compared to the same period a year earlier.

I have not heard any of those party leaders talk about the epidemic of domestic violence.

An epidemic that did not start in the days of the Corona, but the Corona crisis certainly intensifies it.

Nor have I heard any of them say that he will ensure that the budget for the program for the prevention of violence against women, which was promised back in 2017, will be transferred to the relevant government ministries, in order to improve the treatment of the epidemic of domestic violence.

Where did NIS 250 million go?

Somewhere in the depths of the Ministry of Finance, cover the state deficit instead of being used for the purpose for which they were intended.

I have not even heard that the heads of the lists and future Knesset members say that they will take care of the abolition of the reform of private weapons, which Gilad Ardan passed in 2018 as Minister of Internal Security, with the understanding that more weapons into public and private space will lead to more killing, more murder, more loss of life.

Yes I was able to hear all those politicians talking about the health prices of the corona and the economic prices of the plague, and the need to take these two parameters into account.

It seems to me that they have forgotten something, because I have not heard them talk about taking into account and also weighing the prices paid by someone for whom the house is an unsafe, unsafe and even very dangerous place.

In the first closure we had to fight for them to allow the workers and social workers to work, not to send them on forced leave.

The State of Israel has decided that while everyone is locked in homes and the risk within some homes increases, some of the social services should be closed and the responses reduced.

This story will forever illustrate for me how disconnected and opaque there is among decision makers.

This story continues in other chapters.

Even today while the state leaves millions of children in homes, hundreds of thousands of unemployed do not know if they will return to work and family stress levels are at their peak - no one is talking about increasing standards for dealing with domestic violence.

The lives of women and children must be a priority

The guaranteed budget for the war on domestic violence must go to government ministries without delay.

Government ministries all need to work collaboratively to produce relevant programs for the prevention and treatment of violence.

Today this is not the case, government ministries are not prepared and do not know how to work together.

Too much ego, irrelevant considerations, and sometimes just mediocrity are what lead us all to the next murder.

The issue of domestic violence against women and children must be a priority for the various lists, the Knesset and the government that will be formed.

Experience shows that this issue will not be addressed by itself.

Everyone is talking and making headlines, but no one is willing to roll up their sleeves and get the job done.

It is not perceived as important enough, and there are no more votes for the ballot box, it is just a terrible, untreated matter, with zero budgeting, making names in the souls and bodies of many women and children.

Too many.

We must demand, men and women, that the epidemic of domestic violence be addressed, from all aspects: the budgetary aspect, the preventive aspect, the therapeutic aspect, the security and legal aspect.

The demand should be at the sound of a loud shout and in the creation of chaos and unconventional protest.

Unfortunately here in Israel until the volume is deafening nothing changes, and the polite protest phase has long been behind us.
