After four days of deliberations, the United States Senate issued its sentence on Saturday in the historic impeachment trial against former President Donald Trump for alleged incitement to violence in the protests that led to the attack on the Capitol on January 6.
The tycoon was acquitted, as expected, since the Democrats did not reach two-thirds of the votes necessary for the conviction.
By 57 votes against Trump and 43 who declared him "not guilty", the former Republican president nonetheless emerged victorious from the second political trial to which he was subjected.
Trump's defense always said that the process was unconstitutional, that it was motivated by political revenge and that the former head of the White House had not encouraged the violent and that his speeches were governed by freedom of expression.
