Former European Central Bank President Mario Draghi was sworn in before President Sergio Martella today to become the head of a unity government in Italy formed to confront the Corona crisis and the stumbling of the economy.

France 24 reported that outgoing Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte was forced to resign after the collapse of his coalition due to the withdrawal of the small (Italy FIFA) party led by former prime minister Matteo Renzi.

The Five Star Movement and its allies from the Democratic Party failed to try to form a new government, so Italian President Mario Draghi was summoned to the rescue.

According to La Stampa newspaper, Draghi faces a dilemma in the government formation, as the Democratic Party and (Italy FIFA) are ready to support him, as are the conservatives from Silvio Berlusconi's Forsa Italia party, and some forces from the left and center.

Draghi faces huge challenges, as Italy is witnessing the worst economic slowdown since World War II, and the country still records hundreds of deaths every day from Covid-19 disease, as well as the slow pace of the vaccination campaign and the limited time available to him to arrange the situation.
