The United States this evening (Saturday) expressed its "deep concern" at the initial findings of a delegation of experts investigating the source of the coronavirus outbreak in China, and demanded that Beijing provide more information.

The statement from National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan came days after a World Health Organization team ended their visit to Wuhan, China, where the virus was first detected in late 2019, without clear conclusions about its origins.

World Health Organization experts followed a thin diplomatic line during their visit, while the United States demanded an in-depth investigation and China warned against politicizing the issue.

"We have deep concerns about how the early findings of the Cubid 19 investigation were conveyed and questions about the procedure that led to them," Sullivan said.

"This report should be independent, and the findings of the experts should be free from the intervention or changes of the Chinese government."

The National Security Adviser called on China to "give access to information from the earliest days of the outbreak."

In addition to that, the head of the delegation to Wuhan also expressed frustration at the lack of access to data during the visit, saying that most of them were needed to discover more possible early cases of the virus.

"We want more information. We asked for more information," Peter Ben Amberk said in an interview with AFP.

Although the delegation was unable to identify the source of the virus, it poured cold water on the theory - which was also supported by former US President Donald Trump - that the virus had leaked from the Bohan Institute.

She said it was a "completely unreasonable" option.
