No witnesses will be questioned in the impeachment trial against former US President Donald Trump.

Democrats and Republicans agreed, contrary to the previous announcement that the witness Jaime Herrera Beutler would be connected via video, to only record a written statement by the Republican MPs as evidence.

This will continue the process for up to four hours with closing arguments, after which a vote on the impeachment is expected.

The proceedings regarding Trump's responsibility for storming the Capitol on January 6th could end on Saturday.

Previously, the parliamentary chamber had surprisingly spoken out in favor of the general possibility of hearing witnesses.

It was mainly about a phone conversation Trump with the Republican minority leader in the Congress Chamber, Kevin McCarthy during the storming.

Prosecutors wanted to hear Republican MP Jaime Herrera Beutler on this phone call, which Trump could presumably further incriminate because of allegedly indifferent comments about the storming of the Capitol.

Your opinion has now been submitted to the evidence in writing.
