A year after the Pau summit, in January 2020, Barkhane is looking to set new goals.
The meeting which is held Monday and Tuesday in N'Djamena between the G5 countries (Mali, Mauritania, Niger, Burkina Faso and Chad) and France should make it possible to formalize them.
At the foot of the Pyrenees, it was decided to concentrate efforts on the so-called three border zone, between Mali, Niger and Burkina Faso, the deployment ground of the jihadists of the Islamic State in the Great Sahara (EIGS), designated enemy number one.
A strategy that has borne fruit.
The EIGS is, according to a senior French officer,

and the three borders, better controlled.

From now on, Barkhane, while
"consolidating his gains",
wishes to turn to the other Islamist movement active in the area, the Support Group for Islam and Muslims (GSIM), linked to al-Qaida, and ensures do we at the Elysee,
