From our special correspondent in Poitiers
On D-Day, Colonel Serge Camus advises to leave
"fax-style",
slipping out of bed noiselessly to join his brothers in arms.
“The day of departure is never pleasant”
for families, he says.
The soldiers already have their heads elsewhere: in the Sahel, where they will be deployed.
It is no longer time to solve everyday problems or to seek to artificially enjoy the last moments with those close to them.
“I prefer to leave discreetly at night, which allows a smooth departure,” he
adds.
The mission will last nearly four months.
With their corps commander, the soldiers of the Marine Tank Infantry Regiment (RICM) are preparing to fly for Operation Barkhane in a few days.

"In the last few weeks, we check medical skills, we settle administrative questions",

Combat training is complete.
“The tactical preparation has been done in the last six months,” he
says.
