A 92% decrease in the serious morbidity in Corona among people who have been vaccinated - according to a first-of-its-kind study conducted at Clalit Health Fund today (Sunday), among one million two hundred thousand people.

Also, a 94% decrease in infection was found that includes disease symptoms.

The study found that vaccine efficacy is maintained in all age groups, including those aged 70 and over, whose vaccine efficacy could not be evaluated in clinical trials due to its limited scope.

The researchers reviewed data from about 600,000 vaccinated people aged 16 and over, of whom about 170,000 vaccinated people aged 60 and over, and about 430,000 vaccinated people at lower ages.

The vaccinated group was tested against a control group of about 600,000 unvaccinated that was carefully adjusted, so that each vaccinated was tested against an unvaccinated person, similar to him in a long series of indicators such as: risk level of infection, level of risk of developing serious disease, health and more.

Data from the Clalit Research Institute indicate a high efficacy of the vaccine for a period of seven days or more after receiving the second dose, and add information to prevent severe morbidity in Corona, a result that is rare in the Pfizer clinical trial.

In fact, recent lectures have found that the effectiveness against severe illness a week after the second dose ranges from 99% -91%.

"These results are the first swallow in a series of research results completed by the Clalit Research Institute to evaluate the effectiveness of the vaccine in various groups and descriptions," said Prof. Ran Blitzer, director of the Clalit Research Institute.

"For weeks we have been developing tools and methods to deal with the many biases that characterize this type of evaluation research, in real-world data-based data, while neutralizing biases as required from clinical research."

Prof. Blitzer added that "we had to deal with challenges related to the clear differences between the vaccinated and non-vaccinated populations and the change in them over time, as well as the effects of the closure imposed and removed during that period."

"Together with our colleagues at Harvard, we conducted a series of tests to validate the results, and now it is clear that Pfizer's corona vaccine is most effective in real life one week after the second dose, just as found in the clinical study."
