"Minister Piazolo, take back the cancellation of the carnival holidays" - with this request, the GEW teachers' union activated the network.
The GEW collected more than 36,000 signatures via “Open Petition” for the retention of the holidays, which are canceled after a decree by Prime Minister Markus Söder (CSU) and Minister of Education Michael Piazolo (FW).
The petition was useless - Piazolo has made it clear that the week should be used to catch up on failed lessons.
Several attempts by the SPD and the Greens to change his mind also failed.

reached reports that principals of various schools - from primary school to high school - have advised their teachers to take things a little slower this week.
No homework, less video conferences, sometimes entire school days are canceled and only emergency care is maintained.
One example is the district of Erding, where parents have been moaning over the past few weeks.
The Greens school politician Max Deisenhofer, himself a former teacher, confirms this: “You can already hear that among the teachers - and it doesn't surprise me.” First of all, everyone involved deserved vacation after the exhausting weeks of distance learning;
their abolition is wrong.
Second, however, the guidelines for distance teaching are “vague” and are largely left to the discretion of the teachers.
You could use leeway.
The city of Munich also reacts: “Tuesday ends at 12 noon,” confirms a spokesman for the municipal school department.
This is justified by the fact that all the city authorities - from garbage disposal to the registry office - also close from 12 noon on that day.

But one thing is also certain: the Ministry of Culture is alarmed.

Meanwhile, the new GEW state chairman Martina Borgendale has started a new campaign: The lessons during the holidays are arranged overtime.
"That is why we recommend all teachers in Bavaria to apply for remuneration for overtime." The competition from the BLLV does not think so.
"While others fear for their professional existence in the current Corona lockdown and are being eaten up by financial worries, teachers are demanding payment for overtime ???", the BLLV department of service law and salaries writes to the members.
The appeal lacks "any legal basis", the GEW is doing the teachers "a disservice".
There was also trouble because of the introduction of alternating lessons in the final classes.
Whole classes went on strike in Nuremberg, Augsburg and Munich.
Teachers' associations also found the transition from distance to alternate teaching unsuccessful.
