Defense Minister Bnei Gantz opposes the JNF's intention to officially purchase land in the West Bank in order to expand the settlements and instructed his representative in the JNF management to try and remove the issue from the agenda.
The JNF management will convene today (Sunday) at 12:00 to discuss the issue.
On Thursday, it was revealed in Walla! NEWS that JNF chairman Avraham Duvdevani is trying to pass a resolution that will allow the JNF to officially purchase land in the West Bank for the first time ever.
According to the wording of the proposed resolution, the purpose of the move is to enable the transfer of funds to the settlements for their expansion.
The US State Department opposed the move and called on Israel not to take unilateral measures that would exacerbate tensions.
The reform movement in the United States issued a statement condemning the move over the weekend, stressing that it opposes it.
Representatives of Meretz and the Labor Party in the JNF also expressed opposition.

Prof. Alon Tal, deputy chairman of the Jewish National Fund and a blue-and-white representative on the board, said that at the end of the week he held a consultation with Ganz, during which it became clear that the JNF chairman or people on his behalf did not consult with the defense, civil administration and About before formulating the proposal to promote the purchase of land.
"This is a dramatic decision made in a snap without examining its consequences," Tal said.
The Blue and White faction on the board of the JNF believes that such a hasty move is wrong, both materially and procedurally.
This is an issue with security significance and an impact on the international status of the State of Israel.
There is a move concretely toward unilateral annexation, in violation of the Israeli commitment within the framework of the peace agreements last. "
Tal added that the move is particularly problematic because of the sensitive period in relations between Israel and the United States and Europe." JNF, Zionist institution that leads the world must work out a consensus to promote A policy that leads to unity among the people of Israel, "he stressed.
