Authorities in New Zealand today (Sunday) announced a three-day closure in Auckland, the country's largest city, after three unexplained cases of corona virus were discovered in the community.

The closure will take effect shortly before midnight.

Prime Minister Jacinda Arden announced the move in the evening, following an urgent meeting with other senior government officials.

She said they chose a cautious approach until more information about the outbreak was obtained, including whether the diagnoses had contracted one of the more contagious variants.

Arden said the rest of the country would be under tighter restrictions, but that was not a closure at this stage.
