The Parole Board today (Sunday) approved shortening the sentence of Zeev Rosenstein, who was previously one of the most wanted criminals in Israel.

Rosenstein was sentenced in 2004 to 17 years in prison and was due to be released in November, but the commission has approved his release now.

At the request of the prosecution, the commission approved a week-long postponement of the actual release, to give the state an opportunity to appeal the decision.

Rosenstein was arrested in 2004 and extradited to the United States, where he was convicted of trafficking millions of ecstasy pills and sentenced to 12 years in prison.

In 2007, he was transferred to continue serving his sentence in Israel.

In Israel, Rosenstein was convicted as part of a plea deal in connection with a murder that took place on the shores of the Sea of Galilee in the early 2000s, and he was sentenced to another five years in prison.
