The shooting club Gemütlichkeit is 110 years old this year.

This makes it the oldest association in Gaden.

The turmoil of the First and Second World War bothered him, there were problems with the Schützenheim, for a while one even had to fear that the traditional club would disintegrate despite all its successes.

A look into the eventful history, in which the comfort in the club name was not neglected.

In 1911, a few Gaden boys who wanted to found a shooting club met at the Gumberger Gasthaus.

Under the chairmanship of the then master rifleman Johann Sellmeier, statutes were drawn up that should regulate the life of the club.

And they had it all.

For example, only an unmarried boy who was 18 years of age and was not considered contentious and rowdy could join the association.

The Gasthaus Gumberger was chosen as the club's pub, which remained home for a long time.

Also when the owner changed in 2004 and the house was given the new name “Alter Wirt”.

The shooting range was initially housed in an adjoining room for a long time, "which was specially secured by a strong board wall to protect the other guests," says the chronicle.

However, many records were lost in the turmoil of World War I.

In the devastating years of the Second World War, some fellow riflemen had to lose their lives, their names can still be read on the war memorial in Oberhummel.

In the post-war years, when one was no longer allowed to devote oneself to shooting sports, the traditional costume club Waldrausch Gaden was founded under the chairmanship of Josef Schmid.

He quickly became known far and wide.

From 1947 to 1950 peasant teasing was performed, on Shrove Tuesday there was a traditional carnival wedding.

It was not until 1950 that the shooting club was brought back to life.

For this, Waldrausch was dissolved.

The Gaden Heritage Association continues its legacy today.

With Ludwig Gumberger as the rifle master, the first preparations for a flag consecration were made for the re-established rifle club in 1955: A total of 36 rifle clubs met on July 1, 1956 for the field service with Father Drößmann.

A proud rifle platoon marched through the town.

On June 26, 1961, roaring gunfire tore the village out of its sleep.

The reason for this was the 50th anniversary of the shooting club's founding party.

56 clubs were there this time.

Another milestone was the construction of a new shooting range.

For a long time it had been the wish of many shooters to get a suitable room for it.

In earlier years, the shooting range, which was now in the club hall, always had to be set up and taken down, as the chronicle reports.

In 1978 construction finally began.

Thanks to the active support of many helpers, the shooting range was inaugurated in October 1979 with the church's blessing from Pastor Nikolaus Pflanzer.

In 1983 the club flag was restored - after completion there was a big celebration with a home evening.

In the same year Gumberger resigned his position as a marksman master - after 28 years.

He was named honorary marksman master and finally in the Gaden section with the clubs Almenrausch Berglern, Concordia Eitting, Sportschützen Langenpreising, Neu-Edelweiß Berglern, Gemütlichkeit Gaden and Stefansschützen Timor even as honorary marksman master.

His successor: Walter Krumpholz, who held office until 1992.

On October 9, 1992, Helmut Thaler, who is still chairman today, took over.

Today the Gemütlichkeit has over 100 members.

Two outstanding events have occurred in Thaler's long term in office.

On the one hand, this is the construction of a new shooting facility with modern equipment and, on the other hand, the celebration of the 100th anniversary.

Towards the end of the noughties, tensions arose with the landlord, which led to the coziness of their club premises being lost.

In retrospect, however, the painful turning point for the club turned out to be a great advantage.

With massive support from the municipality of Eitting, with thousands of hours of work and with great support from the Bavarian Sports Shooting Federation (BSSB) and Gaden citizens, it was possible to build a shooting shelter at the fire station, which has repeatedly been called one of the most beautiful houses in the wide area becomes.

The groundbreaking ceremony took place in October 2008, and in September 2010 the building was officially opened for its intended purpose with great pomp, a church blessing and many guests of honor and associations.

Just one year later, the 100 year old was celebrated in a large tent.

One of the highlights was the parade with 24 clubs.

In the meantime, Thaler also holds the position of section rifle master of the Gaden section in Schützengau Erding.

With the eight new shooting ranges, electronic data acquisition and better equipment, things were steadily improving.

Everything seemed to be going perfectly for a long time.

But then Helmut Thaler explained that after 42 years of work in the shooting club, he wanted to take it easy - there was fire under the roof.

The extraordinary general meeting in May 2019 was unsuccessful.

Nobody wanted to follow in the great footsteps of the long-time marksman.

Even Thaler's offer in September 2019 to head the club for another three years, if a deputy could be elected, who would take over the office of the marksman at the end of the election period, did not lead to success.

The participants in the extraordinary meeting watched the probable dissolution of the shooting club with all its problems seemingly inactive.

But at the fateful meeting in November 2019 a successor was found: the young Florian Schröcker was elected as 2nd marksman master with the promise to be Thaler's successor.

The remaining board positions could also be filled, primarily with younger people.

"Thank goodness we continue," said Reinhard Huber, who is now the mayor of Eitting, at the time.
