The Likud returned to using the "Elector" app to gather information and motivate potential voters on Election Day, although only last month the Privacy Protection Authority ruled that using the app in the previous election violated the Privacy Protection Law.

The party's zoom conference was held tonight (Monday) to explain the app, which allows voters and supporters to take part in the campaign by identifying and marking Likud voters in order to motivate them to go to the polls.

"With the help of a smart but simple and friendly system, anyone who wants to take an active part in the Likud's election campaign can contribute to the Likud's victory in the elections," the conference said.

"Everything you need to download the app and add Likud supporters from the immediate area - family, friends, neighbors."

In addition, the conference moderators explained that the more supporters a particular user joins, the higher his rank will be, and promised that the activists with the highest rank will win a meeting with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

The Likud has not yet responded.

Last month, the Privacy Protection Authority in the Ministry of Justice ruled that the Likud parties and Yisrael Beiteinu violated the protection of privacy following a security breach discovered in the Elector app last year, in the February 23, 2020 Knesset elections. Includes names, ID numbers, addresses and phone numbers.

The Privacy Protection Authority defined the breach as a "serious information security incident," and ruled that the Likud and Yisrael Beiteinu violated the Privacy Protection Law when they received technological services from Elector, which was required to correct the serious deficiencies revealed during the investigation.

In addition, the Authority emphasized in its announcement the problematic nature of the app, which makes it possible to enter information about citizens even without their knowledge or consent.

"The use of personal information is prohibited, in cases where the valid and satisfactory consent of the person on whom the information was collected was not given, or without explaining the purposes of its use and to whom it will be provided. The parties.

The Privacy Protection Authority also sharpened the responsibilities of the parties themselves to secure the voter register, and rejected the parties' attempt to transfer the responsibility to the electorate developers.

"For the purpose of using the voter register, the parties are required to secure the information as required by law and regulations, with the responsibility for securing the information in the register applying to the parties as the database owner, especially in case the information is held or processed by a third party, including outsourcing providers."
