The country is affected by an air depression accompanied by snow, rain and winds, starting from noon tomorrow, with moderate to severe effects, starting from the coastal areas, and its impact gradually extends during the evening and night hours to the rest of the regions.

The head of the Central Prediction Center at the General Directorate of Meteorology, Shadi Gawish, confirmed in a statement to SANA that the polar depression is accompanied by a very cold and humid air mass that leads to heavy rain showers accompanied by hail and thunder sometimes, especially coastal areas, where the country begins to be affected by strong southwest winds as of Tuesday evening until Thursday morning, indicating that the speed of the expected flashes ranges between 50 and 70 km / h, especially in the southern and coastal areas.

As for the snow precipitation between the Gawish, it begins on Tuesday night in areas with a height of more than 1500 meters and decreases on Wednesday to a thousand meters, while it is not cumulative or mixed in areas with a height of less than a thousand meters indicating that the most likely areas for snowfall are the Qalamoun mountain range and As-Suwayda And the coastal highlands, Jabal Al-Sheikh and some inland areas that are controlled by geographical location and local factor.

Gawish explained that all numerical models of the weather agree that the peak of this depression starts from midnight on Tuesday until midnight on Wednesday, noting that the duration of the country’s vulnerability to this depression continues until Thursday morning, when the weather efficiency weakens and the weather begins to gradually stabilize with the remaining chance for sporadic light rain showers. .

Gawish pointed out that what distinguishes this low air temperature is the noticeable low temperatures, especially on Wednesday, where the temperature drops to less than its rates by about 2 to 5 degrees Celsius, explaining that the feeling of temperature is less than that by about 1 to 3 degrees Celsius and this is called the perceived temperature For example, the expected temperature in Damascus on Wednesday is seven degrees Celsius, while the feeling is 5 degrees or less, due to the cold winds accompanying this depression.

Gawish warned of the occurrence of torrents in valleys, slopes and low places during the peak period of this depression due to the abundance of rain and the intensity of the active southwest winds in the southern and coastal areas, especially those that have a negative impact on the navigation movement in general and the electricity, telephone and greenhouse network.

He also warned of the severe drop in temperatures, which leads to very cold climates that lead to frost, ice formation, and fog during the night and early morning hours, which affects plants in particular and the horizontal visibility, as the level of visibility drops to a thousand meters and below.

Gawish pointed out that these depressions also have negative effects, as they are beneficial in terms of snow precipitation, which support the quantities of groundwater and purify the soil and the atmosphere from harmful bacteria and germs.
