At age 85, Dominican composer and music producer Johnny Pacheco died in New York, his wife Cuqui de Pacheco told CNN.
Considered by experts and lovers of Latin music as one of the fathers of salsa, Pacheco created the Fania Records label in the 60s and later, the Fania All Stars orchestra, where the greatest artists of Caribbean music later performed. and many new musicians rose to stardom.
Pacheco had been hospitalized for several days in a New York medical center with respiratory problems.
