Two French heralds of industrial policy.
Bruno Le Maire, the Minister of the Economy, and Thierry Breton, European Commissioner for the Internal Market had - virtually - made an appointment this Monday morning to discuss, among other issues, a gray cloud in the sky of European sovereignty : the global shortage of electronic components.

Car manufacturers today all suffer from this difficulty in sourcing chips and microprocessors, due to bottlenecks in Asia.
“Our dependence on Asia is excessive and unacceptable.
It makes us vulnerable and weakens our production chains, ”
acknowledged the boss of Bercy.
“The most important point in our European industrial strategy is to strengthen our technological independence vis-à-vis China and the United States,”
he said.
In response to current tensions, the Minister proposes to launch a new dedicated European sector this year.
