US House of Representatives Speaker Nancy Pelosi announced that Congress will form an independent committee to investigate the circumstances of the storming of supporters of former President Donald Trump, the Capitol on the sixth of last month.
Pelosi said in a tweet to her on Twitter: "In order to protect our security, our next step will be to establish an independent external committee similar to the 9/11 Commission to investigate and uncover the facts and causes related to the terrorist attack that took place on the sixth of last month on the Capitol complex."
Pelosi had previously called for the formation of such a committee and said that she "believes there is a need for it."
On January 6, groups of Trump supporters stormed the Congress building, at his instigation, and the violence in the Capitol headquarters resulted in the deaths of five people and the arrest of 52 others.
